„I am Noor Aboud, a civil engineer from Syria, one of the Syrian people whom you have helped to come to Germany via your association. First of all, I would like to express my gratitude to you for helping me come to Germany, your generosity and helping me to adapt to the life here.
Ich heiße Noor Aboud, ich bin 33 Jahre alt, Bauingenieurin, und komme aus Syrien. Ich hatte dort in der Wasserwirtschaft gearbeitet bis meine Arbeitsstelle im Krieg zerstört wurde. Mein Bruder, Elias, ist Musiker und lebt seit einigen Jahren in Weimar. Der Thüringer Verein „Flüchtlingspaten Syrien“ hat es mir ermöglicht, nach Deutschland zu kommen und mir hier eine neue Perspektive für mein Leben zu geben.
Since I came here, I have been surrounded by benevolent people. Christiane and Hartmut Reibold who were really great and who invited me to their place a couple of time and they introduced me to some people and they helped me to be familiar with the German life and the German language. They also introduced me to a German family (the Froeb) here in Weimar who were really nice to me and I went to the church with them a couple of time and they invited me to the Willkommensfest on June 10th. I had a great time there and I got to know other new people who were also really nice.
Seit ich in im Oktober 2016 nach Weimar gekommen bin, habe ich viele freundliche Menschen kennengelernt. An erster Stelle meine Paten, Familie Reibold, die mich mit einer anderen deutschen Familie, Fröb, bekannt gemacht haben. Mit Familie Fröb gehe ich ab und zu in die Kirche oder zu anderen Veranstaltungen in der Gemeinde und zu dem Sommerfest am 10. Juni, wo ich weitere sehr nette Menschen kennengelernt habe.
Also, Philip Jaeger helped me to have an appointment at Bergakademie Freiberg for informing myself about the possibilities of continuing to study in Germany and it was really helpful because I had a good idea about the studying here, the system and the opportunities. In addition he arranged a field visiting to a project in Hamburg to be familiar with the system of working here and to let me know my opportunities to have a student job that can help me to earn some extra money. Also, he helped me visited TU university and helped me to attend two lectures there which were beneficial, especially that I got accepted now to study my environmental engineering master at TU university.
Mein Ziel ist es, In Deutschland einen Masterabschluss in Umwelttechnologie zu bekommen. Philip Jaeger von der Technischen Universität in Hamburg hat mir geholfen, mich über die Möglichkeiten an deutschen Universitäten, z.B. an der Bergakademie in Freiberg, und über Arbeitsmöglichkeiten (ein Renaturierungsprojekt in Hamburg oder Studentenjobs) zu informieren. Ich habe mich am Ende an der Technischen Universität in Hamburg beworben und bin dort für ein Masterstudium in Umwelttechnik angenommen worden.
Also, I attended a German course for two months which was helpful to have a decent knowledge in German which also help me improve my communication with people in German and I will continue my German language studying in university.
Seit zwei Monaten nehme ich an einem Deutschkurs teil (ich musste zunächst eine Englischprüfung bestehen, um für das Studium angenommen zu werden), damit ich mich hier in Deutschland besser mit den Menschen unterhalten kann.
Now I am preparing myself to move to Hamburg-Harburg. First, I got the permission form foreigner office to move to Hamburg and now I am looking for a room in a flatshare and once I found one I will move to start my studying which will begin on 1st October. It is not easy to find a room but I am doing my best and until now I have sent so many requests and I visited two rooms last Saturday 9th September. One of the owner chose another one and the other I am still waiting her response. Anyway, I am still searching.
Im Moment bin ich dabei, mich auf das Studium in Hamburg vorzubereiten, das im kommenden Oktober beginnt. Ich habe bereits die Genehmigung von der Ausländerbehörde, nach Hamburg umzuziehen. Es ist vor allem schwierig, eine Wohnung zu finden. Ich suche vor allem nach einer netten Wohngemeinschaft.
At the end, I can not thank you enough for helping me to change my life to a better one. Continuing my studying will help me achieve my goal in having advanced knowledge in the field of water and environment and in this case I will be able hopefully one day to help others to improve their lives using the knowledge and experience I will receive.
Ich möchte am Ende noch einmal ausdrücken, wie dankbar ich dafür bin, dass liebe Menschen mir dabei geholfen haben und helfen, mir wieder eine Perspektive zu geben und mein Leben zum Positiven zu ändern. Ich will nun meine Kenntnisse und Erfahrungen in der Umwelttechnik verbessern und damit dann eines Tages anderen helfen, auch ein besseres Leben zu führen.“
